The first response by doctors at the World Health Organization after identifying the new swine flu virus emerging out of Mexico, was to declare a public health emergency. They have since elevated the pandemic flu fear alert to Phase 6, equivalent to the U.S. Homeland Security’s Code Red warning. Doctors at the Centers for Disease Control following the lead of the World Health Organization, have declared the swine flu virus a public health emergency. The Department of Homeland Security officials are declaring that any disease outbreak is a matter of homeland security.

Pharmaceutical executives who have seats at the advisory group which met on July 13th recommended mandatory H1N1 vaccination of everyone in all 194 countries that belong to the World Health Organization (WHO). H1N1 is considered a “novel triple reassortant virus” consisting of Avian, Swine and Human viruses. The vaccination will require a trivalent or 3 shot regime. Healthcare workers, pregnant women, healthy young adults of 15 to 49 years, and healthy children will be targeted for vaccination.

A nationwide vaccination program is already planned for the Fall with the pharmaceutical industry set to deliver 160 million vaccine doses, enough to vaccinate more than half of the American population.

The Pentagon has planned the number of troops to be deployed for supporting a mass vaccination program. Involvement of the military is the decision of the Pentagon and Secretary of Defense, which overrides the President and Commander in Chief. The U.S. Congress has not been consulted on the issue. Other countries may follow the U.S. by calling upon their Armed Forces to play a role in support of the H1N1 mandatory vaccination program.

Some of the effects of vaccination include auto-immune disorders, neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders including autism, autism-spectrum, pervasive developmental disorders, Asperger’s syndrome, sudden infant death, infantile paralysis, post vaccine syndromes (Gulf War syndrome, Guillain-Barre syndrome, cognitive impairment, etc.), seizure disorders, ischemic strokes, specific learning disabilities, and attention deficit disorders. It is unknown what truly causes these effects, it could be the biological components of the vaccine which cause the immune dysfunction or any number of adjuvants used to boost an immune response as well as the preservatives such as forms of mercury which are toxic to the nervous system.

Vaccination carries a risk to our health and well being. Our freedom to make voluntary health choices and individual liberties, even in the face of a pandemic should not be denied.

Russell Blaylock, MD – What To
Do If Force Vaccinated
By Dr. Russell Blaylock
8-16-9

Dr Blaylock’s List of suggestions on How to Reduce the Toxic Effects of the A/H1N1 Vaccine, is as follows:

1. Number one on the list says Dr Blaylock, is to bring a cold pack with you and place it on the site of the injection as soon as you can, as this will block the immune reaction. Once you get home, continue using a cold pack throughout the day. If you continue to have immune reactions the following day, have cold showers and continue with the cold press.

2. Take fish oil. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), one of the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil supplements, is a potent immune suppressant. If you take high dose EPA you will be more susceptible to infections, because it is a powerful immune suppressant. However, in the case of an immune adjuvant reaction, you want to reduce it. Studies show that if you take EPA oil one hour before injecting a very powerful adjuvant called lipopolysaccharide (LPS), it would completely block the ability of the LPS to cause brain inflammation. Take a moderate dose everyday and more if needed to tame a cytokine storm.

3. <http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/f-w00/flavonoid.html>Flavonoids are third on the list, namely curcumin, quercetin, ferulic acid and ellagic acid, particularly in a mixture. The curcumin and quercetin in particular have been found to block the ability of the adjuvants to trigger a long-term immune reaction. If you take it an hour before the vaccination, it should help dampen the immune reactions says Dr Blaylock.

4. Vitamin E, the natural form that is high in gamma-E will help dampen the immune reactions and reduces several of the inflammatory cytokines.

5. An important ingredient on the list is Vitamin C at a dose of 1000 mg, taken four times a day between meals. It is a very potent anti-inflammatory and should be taken in a buffered form, not as absorbic acid, says Dr Blaylock.

6. <http://www.naturalnews.com/002156.html> Also use astaxanthin as it’s an anti-inflammatory. According to Dr Blaylock, fatal reactions to vaccines in aboriginal and African children occurred in those who were deficient in carotinoids, like astaxanthin. It is a good protection against the toxic effects of the vaccine.

7. Likewise, it was found that children who were deficient in zinc had a high mortality rate. Zinc is very protective against vaccine toxicity. (Do not use zinc mixed with copper however, as copper is a major trigger of free-radical generation according to Dr Blaylock).

8. Ensure you avoid all immune-stimulating supplements, such as mushroom extracts, whey protein and <http://www.betaglucan.org/>beta-glucan.

9. Take a multivitamin-mineral daily one that does not contain iron. This multivitamin-mineral is to make sure your body has plenty of B vitamins and selenium. Selenium, said Dr Blaylock, is very important for fighting viral infections and it reduces the inflammatory response to vaccines.

10. Magnesium citrate/malate 500 mg of elemental magnesium two capsules, three times a day. (This was not mentioned during the show, but was posted at Dr Deagle’s website, <http://www.clayandiron.com/news.jhtml?method=view&news.id=2103>ClayandIron.com).

11. What is very important is vitamin D3, which is the only ‘vitamin’ the body can manufacture from sunlight (UVB). It is a neural hormone, not really a vitamin says Dr Blaylock and helps if you are over-reacting immunologically by cooling down the reaction. Similarly, if you are under-reacting, it helps to boost your immune response. In addition it also protects against microorganism invasion.

Black people and those in colder climates are particularly deficient, so they will almost certainly require supplementation.

Dr Blaylock recommends that following vaccination it will help to keep the immune reaction under control if:

i) All children get 5,000 units a day for two weeks after the vaccine and then 2,000 a units a day thereafter;

ii) Adults get 20,000 units a day after the vaccine for two weeks, then 10,000 units a day thereafter;

iii) And with that adults should take 500-1000 mg of calcium a day and children under the age of 12 years should take 250 mg a day, as vitamin D works more efficiently in the presence of calcium.

12. Ensure you avoid all mercury-containing seafood or any other sources of mercury, as the heavy metal is a very powerful inducer of autoimmunity, is known to make people more susceptible to viral infections and will be in H1N1 vaccines.

13. Avoid the oils that significantly suppress immunity and increase inflammation – such as corn, safflower, sunflower, soybean, canola and peanut oils.

14. Drink very concentrated white tea at least four times a day. It helps to prevent abnormal immune reactions.

15. Pop parsley and celery in a blender and drink 8 ounces of this mixture twice a day. Dr Blaylock says the parsley is very high in a flavonoid called apigenin and that celery is high in <http://www.dietaryfiberfood.com/antioxidants/flavonoid-antioxidant.php>luteolin. Both are very potent in inhibiting autoimmune diseases, particularly the apigenin, so go and plant some parsley in your garden now.

You will find that this simple cake recipe has travelled well with ancestors from West Afrika to the Southern United States, Caribbean and as far south as Brazil.

It is a very cooling summer cake and a good way to introduce extra Vitamin C and enzymes into your diet as well as the extra protein and essential fats the pistachios give.

This is not a western-type of cake, it will be dense, almost like a pound cake or quick bread.

West Afrikan Lime Cake

Ingredients:

3 tbsp. butter
1 cup raw sugar
2 eggs
Juice of 2-3 limes
Zest of one lime
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tbsp. chopped unsalted pistachios
2 1/4 tsp. baking powder
Optional topping:
1/4 cup Chopped unsalted pistachios
Powdered Sugar

Directions:

Cream sugar and butter, the add the eggs, lime zest and the lime juice beating until smooth, then stir in the flour, baking powder and pistachios until well mixed. Pour into greased and floured 8″ round cake pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes, or until straw stuck into center comes out clean. Poke holes in the top of cake and drizzle with lime juice. Dust with powdered sugar and top with 1/4 cup chopped pistachios. Can be served with a spoonful of yogurt on top.

Posole is a spicy corn stew that is known as the ceremonial dish for celebrating all of life’s blessings and special occasions. It is considered a sacred stew because it includes staples of the Southwestern Native diet: chiles and posole, a type of processed corn. Posole is a thick hearty dishd that is served on Sundays, celebrations and holidays.

The recipes vary from family to family but it reflects the merging of the cultures of Spain, Mexico and Native Americans of the Southwest.

Posole can be made vegan or vegetarian by substituting a 30 oz. can of garbanzo, black or kidney beans for meat.

This dish adds protein, healthy carbs, anti-oxidants and the medicinal immune and cardiovascular system benefits of garlic, onions, oregano and chiles.

Traditionally, posole is served from the pot it was cooked in which has been placed on the dining table with add-in garnishes arranged on the table buffet style. It is a social dish intended to be walked around while eating and socializing with guests.

Shea nut butter is a slightly yellowish or ivory-colored natural fat extracted from the seed of the shea tree by a laborious 9-step process. This fatty extract is known to contain certain number of ingredients with biological activity. A combination of fatty acids (linoleic, linolenic and arachidonic acids), sterols and vitamins A, D, E and F promote cell renewal and increased circulation in the skin. Shea also contains cinnamic acid which is a natural sunscreen that helps protect the skin from harmful ultraviolet rays. It provides the skin protection from environmental and free radical damages. Shea butter has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties. It will no clog pores nor block the hair shaft. Shea butter has been used since ancient times by Afrikan healers as a therapeutic skin treatment.

Karite trees, or shea trees, are not cultivated and grow only in the wild. The tree will produce its first fruit (which resemble large plums) when it is about 20 years old and will reach its full production when the tree is 45-50 years old. It will produce nuts for up to 200 years after reaching maturity.

The Shea tree grows in the dry Savannah belt of West Afrika from Senegal in the west to Sudan in the east, as well as the foothills of the Ethiopian highlands. Shea trees grow naturally in 19 countries across the Afrikan continent: Benin, Ghana, Chad, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central Afrikan Republic, Ethiopia, Guinea Bissau, Cote DIvoire, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Togo Uganda, Zaire and Guinea. The destruction of shea trees is prohibited by law because the mature nuts provide a valuable source of food, medicine, and income for the population. So many women are employed in the production of shea butter that it is also referred to as ‘Woman’s Gold’. Women shea butter collectives exclusively produce shea butter and market the fruits of their hard labor as a source of income for their families.

Ghanian woman kneading shea nut paste

There are two main varieties of shea butter, Butyrospermum Parkii (West Afrikan) and Vitellaria Nilotica (East Afrikan). Butyrospermum Parkii is produced in West Afrika, Vitellaria Nilotica is produced only in Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan. Eastern Afrikan shea butter is rarer because of lower shea production due to the civil unrest in Uganda and Sudan.

Afrikan craftswoman pounding shea nuts

The ancestral art of shea butter making is an intensive process of sorting the nuts, cracking, roasting, grinding, kneading, boiling, filtering and stirring, then bulk packaging the shea butter for resale. The organic residue of shea butter processing is used as plant fuel for cooking and as a source of potassium (lye) for the crafting of traditional black afrikan soaps.
Shea butter is available in 2 forms:
Unrefined shea butter–natural nutty scent, ivory to yellow-beige in color with the highest healing properties.
Refined shea butter– chemically processed to remove shea butters natural scent, bleached white and minimally retains its natural healing properties.
(Shea butter is not recommended for people with nut or latex allergies.)

Please purchase only Certified Fair Trade, Handcrafted Unrefined Shea Butter products which contain a minimum of 30% shea butter for therapeutic results.
I personally use both pure unrefined shea oil and shea butter to control my psoriasis/eczema.

Natural Flea Control

By Nierika

Fleas in the home and on pets occurs in seasons and cycles, depending on your geographical location. Controlling the flea life cycle in a home where pets are a part of the family can be achieved without the use of poison and toxic insecticides.

Most veterinary strength and over the counter flea control products contain harmful ingredients.

Organophosphates & Carbamates are insecticides which affect fleas and parasites by preventing the natural degradation of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at neural junctions. The result is persistent neural stimulation, respiratory paralysis (due to muscle exhaustion), convulsions and death. Unfortunately, the same mechanism can also result in toxicity and death to animals. Since these insecticides can be absorbed through the skin they are dangerous to pets and pet owners.

Organophosphates & Carbamates are known to cause massive cell death in the kidneys, lungs, thymus, and heart. They are also known carcinogens.

In humans they can cause parkinson’s like symptoms which can be irreversible or permanent.

Below are several proven methods for controlling the flea population on your pets and in your home safely.

———————————————–

Safer Flea Control Options

Brewers or Nutritional Yeast - Fleas and other biting insects have an aversion to thiamine which is excreted by the skin and they dislike the taste of it in your body.

1 tsp. for cats and smaller dogs, 2 tsp. for medium-sized dogs and up to a tablespoon for large dogs.

Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth – Diatomaceous earth (DE) is the fossilized remains of microscopic one-celled plants (phytoplankton) called diatoms that lived in oceans and lakes.

It is used as a dessicant. When diatomaceous earth comes in contact with the insects, the sharp edges lacerate the bugs waxy exoskeleton and then the powdery diatomaceous earth absorbs the body fluids causing death from dehydration.

Use diatomaceous earth on your carpeting to kill fleas, sprinkle on with a shaker bottle (like an old parmesan cheese container) and let sit overnight. Vacuum thoroughly. This can be applied twice a year with long lasting effectiveness.

Herbal Flea Powder:

Make a natural flea powder by pulverizing as many of the following herbs in a food processor or coffee grinder:

chrysanthemum
eucalyptus
rosemary
fennel
yellow dock
wormwood
rue

Add an equal part of diatomaceous earth and apply to pets once a week or more if your infestation problem is severe. Brush out any excess powder.

Diatomaceous earth contains 15 trace minerals: calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc iron, phosphorous, selenium, etc. Including DE in your pets diet can also eliminate internal parasites. It is also a powerful detoxifier.

Daily recommended food grade diatomaceous earth feeding rates:

Kittens – 1/2 teaspoon
Cats – 1 teaspoon
Puppies – 1/2 to 1 tsp.
Dogs under 35 lbs. – 1 teaspoon
Dogs over 35 lbs. – 1 tablespoon
Dogs over 100 lbs. – 2 tablespoons

Borax, Boric Acid and Baking Soda – All powerful pet and child-safe dessicants that can be applied to carpeting, brushed into carpet fibers with a broom, left overnight and vacuumed thoroughly. This can be applied twice a year. You may consider adding 25 drops of one or several of the flea controlling essential oils listed below to your shaker. Mix two cups of borax, boric acid or baking soda with 25 drops of pure essential oil.

Herbs – Botanicals which repel fleas are peppermint, eucalyptus, citrus peel, bay leaf, marjoram, eucalyptus and rosemary.

Rosemary Flea Dip:

Steep two cups of fresh rosemary in boiling water for 30 minutes. Strain the liquid and add up to a gallon of warm water depending on the size of your dog. Wait until it cooled but still a bit warm and pour over your dog until their coat is soaked. Allow your dog to air dry.

Lemon Spray Repellent:

Cut a lemon into many squares, cover with boiling water and let it steep overnight. In the morning, spray all over your dog, especially behind the ears and around the head avoiding the eyes, around the base of the tail, and underbelly.

Essential Oils – Essential oils are distilled from the bark, buds, skins, flowers, fruits, seeds, nuts, roots, stems or leaves of a plant.

They contain in high concentration all of the botanical chemical constituents of the plant, such as terpenes, phenols, and ketones.

Essential oils should never be used ‘neat’ or undiluted on pets. Some essential oils are toxic to pets and should never be used. Cats are very sensitive to essential oils and should only be applied when infestation is extreme. Citrus oils should never be used on cats. Cats lack several enzymes necessary for the metabolism of essential oil constituents that they ingest while grooming. A cat-safe alternative would be the application of the botanicals listed below in their hydrosol form. Hydrosol, hydrolat or floral water contains all the water-soluble extracts from the plant, and also has therapeutic properties, like the essential oil does.

Essential oils which repel fleas are Neem, Rosemary, Cedarwood, Citronella, Lavender, Basil, Sage, Lemongrass and Lemon Balm.

Flea and Tick Spritzer:

1 pint of distilled
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon vodka
4-6 drops of aloe, glycerine, lecithin or castille soap as an emulsifier
20 drops of several essential oils listed above

Add the water, vinegar, vodka and emulsifier to a spray bottle. Shake well. Then add 20 drops of several essential oils listed above. Spray pets daily, avoiding eyes and mouth. A light misting will apply enough diluted essential oil to repel fleas.

Flea and Tick Shampoo:

Mix 1/2 cup shampoo and 20 drops of several essential oils listed above.

Bathe weekly during high infestation season. Try to leave the shampoo on as long as your dog will permit. Rinse thoroughly.

———————————————————–

Other effective means of flea control:

Regular grooming and flea combing - Drown any fleas you find in a bowl of dishsoap and water.

Nematodes - Small worms which feed off of fleas, flea eggs and flea larvae. These nematodes live in the soil and can be spread in yards and gardens. They can be mail ordered readily online thru garden supply vendors.

Frequent vacuuming – Empty bagless vacuum cleaners or change vacuum bags and place the bag/contents of vacuum outside so that fleas do not continue to breed and reproduce inside the bag and reinfest the home.

Laundering bedding - I buy fleece remnants at the fabric stores very inexpensively and always have a supply of clean bedding I can change out frequently. Launder pet blankets and bedding often.

Natural Prostate Health Care

The prostate is a walnut-sized gland that only men have. It is part of the reproductive system that makes the fluid that carries sperm. The prostate is located in front of the rectum and just below the bladder.

The urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to outside the body) runs through the center of the prostate. As men age, the prostate tends to increase in size. This can cause the urethra to narrow and decrease urine flow.

Prostate disease is more common in African-American men than in Caucasian men and is less common in Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander and Native American men.

Enlarged prostate, also called benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), is a noncancerous enlargement affected by the male hormone testosterone and by aging. Starting at about age 40, the prostate gland naturally begins to enlarge in most men. Almost 90 percent of men ages 80 and older have an enlarged prostate.

Some men have BPH but have no problems. In others, the enlarged prostate may begin to press inward on the urethra, partially or completely blocking the flow of urine. If the bladder never completely empties,a buildup of old urine can lead to bladder or urinary tract infection. The enlarged prostate may stop the flow of urine so much that it causes kidney problems.

Prostate cancer develops twice as frequently in African American men than in Caucasians and is relatively uncommon in Native Americans and Hispanics.

Becoming aware of ones body can ease the discomfort of prostate disease and prevent cancer of the prostate.

If you don’t take care of these early signals, you will be placed on a regimen of pharmaceuticals with unknown side-effects or you may end up requiring the very painful surgical removal of your prostate.

Symptoms of prostate problems can include:

Difficulty starting or stopping urination

Frequent need to urinate

Need to urinate in the middle of the night

Pain with urination

Weak or unsteady urine stream

Urine leakage (incontinence)

Feeling as if the bladder is not completely empty after urination

Pain in and around the base of the penis or discomfort between the scrotum and rectum

Pus, blood, or cloudiness in the urine

Painful ejaculation

Difficulty having an erection

Pain in the lower back, hips, or upper thighs

There are many ancient remedies available from the pharmacoepia of Afrikan and Native American healers. Scientific research is now being focused upon these plant medicines because of their high efficacy and proven chemical constituents to alleviate prostate disease symptoms. As a measure of wellness and prevention, you may choose to begin supplementing your diet with one or several of the following herbs listed below.

Afrikan herbs for prostate health:

Afrikan plum or pygeum–Traditionally used for treating functional symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Buchu–Helps with incontinence associated with prostate issues and reduces swelling of the prostate gland.

Saw palmetto–Once used as a staple food and medicine for both Native Americans and Afrikans. Saw palmetto will modify estrogen receptors and balance the level of testosterone in the body, reduces the amount of an enzyme that promotes the growth of prostate cells which helps keep the prostate at a near normal size. Saw palmetto also helps with the urinary issues of BPH.

Afrikan star grass root or afrikan Potato–Traditionally used to treat prostate and urinary problems. Contains sterols and sterolins that balance testosterone and discourage swelling of the prostate tissue.

Native American Herbs for prostate health:

Couch grass or quack grass–Traditionally used to reduce prostate swelling and uncontrollable urination. It will also soothe the lining of the urinary tract.

Life root or golden ragwort–Traditionally used to reduce swelling and pain of the prostate. Balances testosterone levels.

Pumpkin seed oil–Once used as a staple in the Native American diet, pumpkin seed oil has a very high gamma-tocopherol content which is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Pumpkin seed oil interrupts the conversion of testosterone to DHT which causes the over-proliferation of the prostate cells.

Red clover–Traditionally used as a blood purifier and cancer remedy. The isoflavones in red clover will help balance testosterone levels and reduce swelling of the prostate. Red clover will block the effects of estrogen and DHEA. Red clover may also block enzymes thought to contribute to prostate cancer.

Stinging nettle root–Traditionally used to treat the urinary symptoms caused by prostate enlargement. Steroidal components of stinging nettle root suppress prostate-cell metabolism and growth. Research has shown that stinging nettle root has anti-proliferative effect and will slow the growth of certain prostate cells.

Wild hydrangea root–Traditionally used in the treatment of inflamed or enlarged prostate glands. Also alleviates urinary tract discomforts. Although little scientific research exists, wild hydrangea root is a powerful anti-inflammatory, DHT inhibitor, antiestrogenic and an excellent liver cleanser.

As always, please give any natural therapies up to 6 weeks before experiencing results.

Source: VetLord.org

A daily diet should consist of four parts protein to one- two parts carbohydrates

This diet can be fed raw or lightly cooked depending on your cat and situation. Be sure never to feed any animal cooked bones. Always chop finely or blenderize raw vegetables to break down cell walls and make them digestible for your feline friend.

One part of protein is equal to

2 oz meat or fish

1 medium egg

1/2 cup yogurt- note that 1/2 cup of yogurt counts as 1 unit of carbohydrate as well

1/3 cup cottage cheese- note that 1/3 cup of cottage cheese counts as 1 unit of carbohydrate as well

2 oz organ meat-you can feed up to one unit of organ meat several times a week if desired.

Carbohydrates

You will need to feed 1 to 2 units of carbohydrates per day

One part of carbohydrate is equal to

1 cup vegetables such as-broccoli, brussel sprouts, greenbeans, peas, cabbage, spinich, squashes

1/2 cup fruits such as-melons, berries, bananas, tomatoes, apples. Also carrots at 1/2 cup.

1/4 cup cooked beans, lentils or chick peas

1/3 cup of grains such as-oatmeal or barley can be added if you wish. These are the best of the grain type carbohydrates for a cat but note that grains in general are the least favorable type of carbohydrate. Try to limit or avoid these carbohydrates if your cat allows . Whole wheat pasta or brown rice are other options although not preferred.

Supplements

1/2 teaspoon bone meal

multivitamin for cats- whole food source is preferred. Your cat should be supplemented with 50-100 mg of taurine per day depending on the size of cat. Meat loses much of its taurine content when cooked. Check your multi to see if it is supplied or if you need an additional supplement.

500-1000 mg fish oil

antioxidant as directed for felines

Please note that this diet will not be adequate or appropriate for all cats. Be sure to check with your veterinarian before begining this or any other new diet for your cat.

We are now in the middle of summer and along with the heat, some of you who are approaching perimenopause and are in menopause are finding this season of the year to quite uncomfortable.

Hot flashes are common to about 80% of women in this stage of life. Degrees of discomfort vary from mild hot flashes in the evenings to severe hot flashes with profuse sweating throughout the day, sensitivity to heat and nocturnal hot flashes which make sound sleep difficult.

The allopathic clinical approach is to address these symptoms by administering combinations of synthetic or equine derived hormones which pose a risk of stroke, breast and uterine cancers.

Alternatively, women can seek the use of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Bio-identical hormones are human hormone molecules derived from plant phytosterols. Bio-identical hormones are obtained from a compounding pharmacist who will customize a protocol based upon the results of saliva testing. Saliva testing is utilized in order for the compounding pharmacist to prescribe hormone therapy based upon the base levels of hormones of each patient. Common test panels will include results for Estradiol (E2), Progesterone (Pg), Testosterone (T), DHEA (DS) and all four Cortisol adrenal stress levels throughout the day (C1, C2, C3, C4).

Women can also use a variety of natural remedies to lessen the occurrence of hot flashes. It is a good idea to start with ordering a saliva test online and learning what hormones are out of balance, in excess or deficient. You can also address your symptoms and apply the remedies which best suit your discomforts.

Herbs commonly used to alleviate hot flashes include:

Black cohosh – traditional Native American remedy. A phytoestrogen that is recognized by the body and stimulate natural estrogen production, it is also helpful in cases of estrogen dominance.

Chickweed – traditional European remedy. Cools the body when internal temperatures rise above normal.

Dong quai – traditional Chinese remedy. The phytoestrogens in dong quai help regulate estrogen levels.

False unicorn – traditional Native American remedy. Stimulates ovarian hormone production.

Ginseng – traditional Chinese remedy. Stimulates the ovaries to produce more estrogen.

Licorice root – traditional Chinese remedy. Stimulates estrogen production and balances in cases of estrogen dominance.

Maca – traditional Peruvian remedy. Stimulates hormonal reserves and helps maintain hormonal homeostasis.

Red clover – traditional European and Native American remedy. Contains four phytoestrogens: biochanin-A, formononetin, daidzein, and genistein.

Sarsaparilla – traditional Native American remedy. Reduces estrogen, stimulates progesterone and balances hormones.

Vitex–traditional Greek remedy. Helps balance the androgen levels and will correct the balance of estrogen to progesterone.

White sage – traditional Native American remedy. Helps reduce perspiration.

Wild yam root – traditional Native American remedy. Contains a saponin called diosgenin. After extraction from yam it is converted to natural progesterone or dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). It is best applied as a topical creme or gel. Look for USP Progesterone on the label of products.

(You may use one herb or combine several for better results.)

Essential Fatty Acid Supplementation:

Black currant seed oil – contributes to estrogen production.

Borage seed oil – has the highest concentration of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) which is essential for hormone production.

Evening primrose seed oil – inhibits the production of hormone-like chemicals in the blood called prostaglandins.

Flax seed oil – Flaxseeds are the richest source of plant lignans, which are phytoestrogens able to regulate hormone balance.

As always, please give any natural therapies up to 6 weeks before experiencing results.

Holistic Pet Food

With all of the recent recalls of commercially available pet foods, I have been inspired to begin sharing recipes for homemade pet foods. The FDA allows many harmful substances on their “safe list”. Many pets have died due to some of these items. My own grandparent’s fed their livestock and pets with cooking and table scraps, their pets or animals never had problems.

Introducing a new diet to a pet used to commercially prepared foods will be difficult in the beginning for some. Gradually start off with small portions of the homemade diet mixed in with their current food. Slowly increase the portions until your pet is eating 100% of their new diet. Some pets will make the switch immediately and others will take time.

You can save all of your vegetable (no onions or garlic or peppers) and meat scraps from food preparation and freeze them until you have enough to simmer down into a rich broth that you can feed directly to your pets or use in your new homemade recipes.

Any tablescraps that are not heavily spiced or salted can be shared with your pets. My cats love to lick the yoghurt from my bowl, they also love corn, peas, fish skins, chicken skins and chicken wing tips. They will eat baby field greens as they are straight from the bag. Leftover scrambled egg bits are a favorite treat for my cats as well. I have a friend whose dog loves carrots, apples and baked potato skins.

Please return often as I will begin archiving recipes here.
